FAQ
FAQ
What do we fill our heat pads with?
Our heat pads are filled with soft, comforting linseed as standard — it has a lovely weight and holds heat beautifully. If you prefer, you can choose wheat instead. We also offer the option to add dried herbs or flowers for a naturally gorgeous scent — think lavender, chamomile, or rose. It’s like a little hug with every use.
Can I use a heat pad if I have a skin condition or am pregnant?
Your wellbeing is so important. If you're pregnant or have a skin condition (or any health concerns at all), we always recommend checking with a healthcare professional who knows you and your needs. It’s best to be safe and fully informed.
How do I avoid burning my heat pad?
A few simple steps will help keep your heat pad safe and snug. Always place it on a clean, microwave-safe plate (leftover food in the microwave can singe the fabric). Pop a small cup of water in the microwave too — this adds moisture to the air and keeps the seeds from drying out. And please don’t overheat your pad — it's tempting, but too much heat can damage the fabric and seeds. Don’t worry: full care instructions come with every pad.
How often can I reheat my heat pad?
Our heat pads are made to last — you can reheat them hundreds (even thousands!) of times. Just make sure the pad has completely cooled before you pop it back in the microwave. Again, including a small cup of water helps preserve the filling and keeps everything working beautifully. Sometimes you just can't wait so if you reheat your pad while it is still warm, it may not need the full heating time again.
Can I heat my heat pad in the oven?
No ovens, please — our heat pads are designed to be safely heated only in a domestic microwave. You can gently warm them by resting them on a radiator, but they should always be supervised. Safety first.
How do I clean my heat pad?
Just a gentle wipe with a slightly damp cloth will do the trick for spot-cleaning. Please don’t immerse your heat pad in water or pop it in the washing machine — it’s not safe for the seeds inside. Some of our heat pads come with removable covers you can wash, so be sure to check your product details for that little luxury.

Why we believe heat pads a great alternative to hot water bottles?
Hands Free - Our shouder pads are perfectly balanced to stay in place while letting you move.
Fit - At Selki we believe your heat pad should fit you, not the other way round! Hot water bottles are usually stiff and we end up manoeuvring ourselves around them to fit rather than the other way round. SelkiBelts are sectioned into baffles that fit where they are needed.
Moist Heat - It has been shown that moist heat penetrates the body deeper than dry heat. Our heat pads have a moist heat, whereas hot water-bottles give a dry heat. This means that the heat our heat pads give to you is more effective at reaching deep muscles - causing better all round relaxation.
Weight - Hot water bottles are heavy, they are filled with water and work best when you're stationary, sitting or lying down. It's definitely always a struggle to hold on to a hot water bottle while doing everyday tasks! Heat pads are filled with linseed (which is far lighter) meaning you can carry on with your day without feeling weighed down.
Environmental Impact - Hot water bottles are most commonly made of rubber which degrades quickly, can rupture, and persist in a landfill for thousands of years. Our heat pads are made from 100% biodegradable materials and can literally be thrown in the compost pile (after years of use and love, of course!)
Why is our linen so great?
Traditional linen is a little rough feeling - this is not the case with our linen. Our linen is enzyme washed, which is not only a much more environmentally friendly method of preparing linen, but also leaves a much softer final product than traditional methods such as stone washing.
This means our linen is great if you have sensitive skin. Because of the softness of our linen, mixed with its superior breathability we would suggest our Selki Skins SelkiBelt for customers with more sensitive skin.
Our linen is made from 100% flax (just like our filling!) which also means that every pack is biodegradable!
